London On My Mind

I know the title of the song is really Georgia On My Mind, but articles like this one: http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977147255 have caused me to have London on the mind. I have never been outside of the US and I am positively itching to go to Europe.

I would love to take the boys to see Big Ben, Buckingham Palace (especially the changing of the guards!), Kensington Palace, St. Paul’s Cathedral, The London Eye, the Botanical Gardens, the list goes on and on! We are big Harry Potter and DaVinci Code fans, so we would have to take those tours as well.

So, all of this daydreaming had me thinking, how expensive could it be? Maybe this dream could become a reality… so I did a little research and found this website: http://www.visitlondon.com/people/ which had tons of info on what sites to see in London, how to visit on a budget (yes!), and even this great section for kids: http://kids.visitlondon.com/ (Does having 6 kids make that section a no brainer? LOL). I even found some affordable hotels at London Accomodation. So, maybe my dream may become a reality! Just wish me luck in convincing the hubby!

Yes! Go for it! We did it! You can, too! We went super-budget, though. I decided that it was worth it to put up with just about anything to be able to go. So, we knew we'd not be in the Quality Inn because it costs about $250US a night to stay at a Quality Inn style hotel over there. As it was we still paid about $120/130 for teeny tiny rooms, one without a bathroom and the other had a shower/toilet/sink. But we got to go. It wasn't a luxury trip. It was about getting there and being there with history, etc. We loved London and even went up to Scotland to see Loch Ness and Edinburgh Castle and down to the White Cliffs (which are actually along a large portion of the English Channel). Next trip I want to see Hadrian's Wall and the 1066 Battlefield of the Normal Conquest! When you go, don't forget Greenwich. It's just a hop and a skip from London ... like maybe 10 mins on the DLR (a local cheap train). Email me if you have any questions or just want to chat. My email address is linked from my online journal news.abasiccurriculum.com. I won't be home until later, though.

Oooooo, yes, go if at all possible. One of my dreams is to go to England. We are trying to get passports so we will be ready if we find a super good deal. I'll have to check out some of your links.
